Preparing for the Transit of Venus

How interesting that with Mars retrograde - Mars being the masculine archetype and all - that so much is coming up regarding matters of Venus.Venus and Mars are the two classical planets least likely to be retrograde. How curious that we presently endure the retrograde of Mars only slightly before the retrograde of Venus. It’s almost as if our collective attention is being grabbed by these planets for a wake-up call. This next Venus retrograde is not just a rare event in retrogradation land. This time Venus “transits” the Sun.

Essentially the geometry of an eclipse, on June 6th  Venus will be seen to cross over the disk of the sphere of the Sun. This rare alignment happens in intervals of eight years (since the last one in 2004), 105.5 years (until the next one), eight years and then 121.5 years after that. The last cycles in the late Nineteenth Century started the suffrage movements in New Zealand and the United States and also marked the dawn of workers’ reform.Venus represents social standards, women’s right in society, economics - personal and collective - and more personally, needs and wants.

Recent political news in the United States certainly speaks to Venus matters. The recent wildfire regarding contraception insurance benefits in the United States relates to Venus on the woman’s rights and economic fronts. The Susan B. Komen foundation for Cancer research lost a heap of support and money - both Venus things - because of their decision to take away funding from planned parenthood. And in these circumstances, another Venus question is not even addressed: Does the Earth have the resources to support an unlimited supply of new humans on the planet?

Also in the mix is the major effort to do away with unions, largely led by plutocrats whose last name unfortunately is the same as an astrological method for dividing up the sky. I admit bias here. I am a union writer and believe in the aid that unions can offer astrological writers without the resources to take on major corporations that arbitrarily decide to ignore contracts. Unions, in terms of what they offer, may be considered to fall under the auspices of Venus.

On the economic front in the U. S. opposing party politicians speak of the other party’s plans as evil, ignorant and certainly intending to hurt the people. No worries. Venus is fixing to clear up all of this.

While I’ll reserve my opinions on the economic themes, I can comment on the opinion of Venus. Woe be unto the politician who seeks to shut off social services and the needs of the people. Woe be unto the politician that disregards the rights of women. Woe be unto the politician who seeks to keep workers disadvantaged. Venus has worked long and hard since the last transits (1882 and 1874) to offset suppression and inequality in social and economic matters. I doubt seriously that a politician who supports undoing any of that will fare well following the Venus transit in June.

Last week another interesting event took place of Venus import. The United States Navy named a ship for Representative Gabrielle Giffords. The USS Gabrielle Giffords, LCS-10, will patrol coastlines involved in antisubmarine, mine sweeping and surface warfare. While this is not the only time a ship has been named for a woman or a living person, like Venus transits and retrogrades this is a rare event. As an added note, this inspiring woman received martial recognition during the Mars retrograde era.

So those are some collective considerations that apply to the current retrogrades. What about for you personally?

How about during Mars retrograde, you…

  • Review all standard modes of action for alignment with the intended result. You know, is your approach compelling or off putting? Can you get more bears with honey than vinegar? And, why do you want bears?
  • Consider if those things you unconsciously seek actually fit your big picture aspirations and dharmic claims?
  • Establish a highly motivated engine burn for all things that summon your attention and passionate creativity?
  • Pause in the face of knee-jerk reactions prior to responding?

And, how about if during the Venus retrograde interval (May 15 - June 27), you…

Ask yourself what you truly need?

  • Contemplate your resources, merit and worth, both tangible and intangible?
  • Value your intangible resources with greater ferocity than the tangible. After all, those things intangible and of your nature will never go away unless you ignore them?
  • Establish your personal criteria for what is it you need, what is it you want, and the justification system in place regarding both?
  • Determine your place in the social structure of life? Cut out things that do not fit? Include yourself in supportive and stimulating circles?
  • Consider what you might be able to do about collective matters regarding Venus? If you feel a calling, this might be the perfect time to answer the bell.

By no means are the above intended to be a complete list. Just a little something to get you thinking about how you go about having your life work out better and what it is that you’re ardently seeking to manifest for yourself in the perfect world of fantastical imagination.

PLANETARY Movements for FEBRUARY 2012

By Richard Giles

The times in this piece are based on Queensland, Australia, times (AEST).  For other state adjustments take 2 hours off for WA and half an hour for South Australia.  Daylight savings began in October.  For other countries - in the UK take off 10 hours, for Japan /Asia take off 1 or 2 hours and for the USA take 12 to 15 hours depending on which US state you are in.

VENUS Opposite MARS Retro: On 2nd February at 23 degrees Pisces/ Virgo.  When Venus goddess of love, opposes Mars, god of war and action, then we can be assured that there’s going to be some blow-ups in the relationships around you somewhere, even yours. With Mars retro its also possible to sort these relationships difficulties.

NEPTUNE Into PISCES:  From Saturday 4th February at 1.50 am.  Neptune is associated with matters spiritual and sensitive as well as psychic. Its going into its own sign for  the first time since its 1846 discovery. As a planetary force it asks us all to be much more creative and sensitive to others and the environment around us. Neptune rules over fantasy, hypnosis, meditations, creative art and music, mystical and trance states plus the experience of the cosmos in everyday life. Neptune will spend many many years here, spreading compassion and spiritual significance far and wide through its invisible psychic undercurrents, and wash us over with a nebulous mist of unifying sensitivity. Its there until 2026.

SUN Conjunct MERCURY: On 7th February at 18 degrees Aquarius. The ability to unite your will power with your mental processes is higher now and you can focus  strongly on mental goals.

SATURN Turns RETROGRADE:  Exact from 8th February at 29 and half degrees Libra. This is the opportunity to get together an organised system within yourself to deal with plans and schemes enabling you to get more from the practical side of life and with wise use of material resources. It lasts until June 2012.

FULL MOON:  Exact on Wednesday 8th February at 18 and half degrees Leo at 7.55 am. The Full Moon is the time for international meditations - connect with others around the world for international peace. The Moon in Leo can bring up issues about the creative side of your life, your children and how you treat them and your need for romances.

VENUS Into ARIES: From 8th February at 4 pm. Art and beauty have an uplifting effect on you now. You can work on your emotional connections with those close to you and be active about commitment from you. Make use of those Fire energies to build new creative skills.

VENUS Conjunct URANUS: Also on 10th February at 2 degrees Aries. The planet of creative love and the planet of surprises meld with each other. Its a day to unusual art that grabs your attention, or to you fall suddenly in love with the beautiful person next to you at the local cafe (in your eyes). You can be fixing up your money values.

SUN Inconjunct MARS Retro: On 10th February at 21 degrees Aquarius/ Virgo. The action power of Mars and the Sun together means this is a day to watch out for sudden accidents or inappropriate actions. Try to play an active sport today or run, jump and get active and watch your anger levels.

MERCURY Into PISCES: From 14th February at at 11.30 am. As the planet communicator slides into the sign of higher truths and also of confusion, make sure you have your ideals very straight and you can say what you want and be clear. Inspiration is important .

MERCURY Conjunct NEPTUNE: Also on 14th February at zero degrees Pisces.  With Mercury  and Neptune, planet of the ethereal, together it could feel like a strange day indeed. Words can be deceptive, the media can be confused and perceptions may be array. Keep yourself very grounded over these few days.

VENUS Square PLUTO: On 16th February at 9 degrees Aries/ Capricorn. This is a period of  intense moments of passion and a creative rush when you could make some big mistakes. The ruler of money and values is Venus so watch your investments and bank accounts. Love and commitment are the difficult issues.

MERCURY Conjunct CHIRON: On 17th February at 5 degrees Pisces. Communicating  about how to heal the world and yourself comes through today. Look at your ideals and re-examine them, and then move onwards.

SUN Into PISCES: From Sunday 19th February at 4.17 pm. The Sun moves out of the innovative Aquarius into boundariless Pisces and greatly opens up your sympathetic and compassionate side. Focus on helping others and on putting your ideals into practical form.

SUN Conjunct NEPTUNE: On 20th February at zero degrees Pisces. The Neptune cosmic energy is available now as it lines up directly with the Sun. It can be a confusing day with  many fuzzy edges.

NEW MOON: Exact on Wednesday 22nd February at 3 degrees Pisces. The New Moon is a good occasion for new beginnings in things. In Pisces it raises the focus on compassion and sympathy for others’ plights. Make sure your attention is onto these issues.

MERCURY Opposite MARS Retro: On 23rd February at 17 degrees Pisces/ Virgo. Challenges to the way you think are about now. Keep your mind and metal skills active by doing lots of challenging thinking. You’ll learn a lot about yourself and remember to keep your patience.

SUN Conjunct CHIRON: On 24th February at 5 degrees Pisces. Chiron’s healing energy is available now while it lines up directly with the Sun. It comes through in various solar events so take advantage of it.

PLANETARY HINTS for the New MONTH:  Mars is spending the entire month retrograde and will not contribute to the normal active speed at which things are done. You can get hints of this as Mars activates all the inner planets over February one by one. Saturn also turns retrograde on the 8th February and makes it another planet’s energy that has to be dealt with on the inner level - Saturn is about your duties, responsibilities and your long term goals. And Neptune goes into Pisces from the 4th February and being associated with matters spiritual and sensitive as well as psychic we move towards that way from now on. The 14th February is St Valentines day and it has the Neptunian feel to it with Mercury (communications) into Pisces, so expect that the subtle gifts for your love will work best, Nothing too ostentatious. The New Moon on the 22nd is right on the Chiron and Neptune combination in early so some healing is in the air for the next 28 days. And don’t forget, this is a Leap Year so make a leap into something good..
